You can find five problems that may come up when you are composting. All the issues are comparatively effortless to troubleshoot and repair. During your schedule monitoring of one’s compost in your composting bin, keep a appear out for indicators of a dilemma and try some of the advised options listed below.

In the event you see a swarm of flies about your compost bin, the possibilities are that you have not put enough brown food, such as leaves, twigs and hay on top of one’s kitchen scraps. The kitchen scraps are quite inviting to fruit and home flies so be sure that you do not depart them exposed.

Woodlice, even so, are useful towards the composting method and point out that the materials is breaking down into compost. A lot more often than not, the woodlouse will feed on decaying vegetable matter. They are not a problem, given that they don’t typically assault growing crops.

In case you come across that your compost bin includes a negative scent, the most likely trigger is the fact that not sufficient air is acquiring through to all parts of your compost. Give the compost a great turning and add a grainy substance like wood chips or sawdust. (Rotating compost bins can make this process much easier.) These are grainy and can create pockets where the air can transfer freely.

In the event you come across that the compost in your compost bin is extremely dry, add some moisture in the form of water. You need to not soak the pile but add just enough to get it wet. If your compost pile is continually drying out, take a look at other factors such as location and what you are including. You may possibly need to maneuver the bin to another location with less sun, or add much more wet scraps like fruit and vegetable waste.

Your compost pile seems to become operating (it’s moist and warm) but only in spots. Both your pile is not significant enough or you’re not rotating it enough. Make certain you might be frequently including new scraps and are rotating the pile every second day.

Just like the problem of flies, if you have pests visiting your pile you need to be sure you might be covering all kitchen scraps thoroughly. Nonetheless, don’t add any animal goods like meat or bones.

Its suppost to be really easy, no digging, tilling or weeding. But it seems to good to be true has anyone tried it?
Lasagna gardening is basically layering things such a news paper, peat moss, compost, manure, grass clippings, leaves and other things. It has NOTHING to do with the food.

Donna asked:

My neighbor, who always worked outside in his yard, is now confined to a dementia ward in the local nursing home. He still responds to plants, trees, leaves etc. I did take him some bare branches in water off my corkscrew willow tree which have now leafed out and he likes that. What else can I do? I’m thinking of taking small pots full of potting soil and helping him start seeds, (coleus comes to mind as they could be transplanted and used as houseplants.) Do you have any other ideas? Obviously we are limited on space (there is a large windowsill in his room). Could we grow any vegetables? Thank you for any suggestions.
